FULL BIOGRAPHY
Archie Tulk (b. 2003) is an emerging Australian composer and creative artist, currently completing his Bachelor of Music Composition at Royal Conservatoire The Hague in the Netherlands, made possible through a music scholarship granted by The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust. Archie’s ever-expanding creative vision sees his work fluidly move between artistic disciplines, composing contemporary art music, alternative popular music and scoring for film and multimedia projects. His compositions reflect a fascination with the intersections of memory, place, and time, frequently threading themes of connection, detachment, and identity into his music. Over the past few years, Archie has had works commissioned and performed by Residentie Orkest, Roctet, Luminescence Chamber Singers, Sydney Children's Choir, Quatuor Bozzini, Muze van Zuid Festival, The Polish Children’s Fund, The Choir of St Pauls, Phillips Academy Massachusetts String Orchestra, and Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir.

At the Royal Conservatoire, he is studying under the tutelage of prolific Dutch composers Martijn Padding and Peter Adriaansz. Archie began to hone his compositional voice and creative vision at the Conservatorium High School in Sydney, under the tutelage of Jack Symonds, and upon graduating received the James Easton Memorial Composition Award. He began his tertiary studies at Sydney Conservatorium on a merit scholarship, where he quickly gained recognition in the Sydney choral scene for his distinct compositional style, leading to performances of his works by the university choirs of St Paul's College Sydney and Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir, and later receiving commissions from Sydney Children’s Choir for program ‘Gumura’, and Luminescence Chamber Singers for their unique project ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’. With a desire to continue his tertiary studies overseas, in 2023 Archie was offered admission at both The Royal Danish Academy of Music, and Royal Conservatoire The Hague. Since relocating to the Netherlands, Archie has had to opportunity to compose for The Hague’s Residentie Orkest as part of their One Minute Symphony Initiative, as well as for string octet Roctet, whose performance of his work was featured at the Muze van Zuid Festival in Amsterdam. Most recently, he composed the music for the short film Brume de Temps, directed and produced by Jasmijn Wasmoe and Tim Grünewald, which will be submitted for consideration at the Nederlands Film Festival.
Archie is also a passionate performer of vocal music across a variety of genres and settings, currently undertaking a minor study in Choral Conducting under the tuition of experts László Nemes and Krista Audere, as well as studying voice with Dutch bass/baritone, Kees Jan de Koning. Archie sings regularly with the Consort of Nicolaasbasiliek Amsterdam, and with Laurens Vocaal, the resident chamber choir of Laurenskerk Rotterdam. In the past he has performed as an ensemble artist and apprentice with Australia’s national vocal ensemble, The Song Company, in Fullness of Joy (2022), and has held choral scholarships at The Choir of St James, The Choir of St Paul’s and Christ Church St Laurence, all based in Sydney. As the first of many independent vocal projects, Archie co-founded ensemble False Relations during his final years of high school and has since performed with them at the Canberra International Music Festival, a sold-out premier concert at Christ Church St Laurence, and for Phoenix Central Park, with the ensemble notably amassing over 4 million views and 70,000 followers on social media. Archie also composes and produces works for various indie-art pop projects, such as collaborative duo ‘SOYS’ with composer Aidan Eccleshall, and for his solo project ‘Marry Me Archie’. His single ‘all the things’ released when he was 17 years old has reached over 15,000 streams across all platforms.
As a contemporary creator, Archie thrives in the intersection of diverse styles, seamlessly integrating his personal experiences with his ever-evolving artistic vision.
